Flag ceremonial is goings-on that execute to memorize the hard struggle and sacrifice of national combatants. Some country, especially Indonesia, hold it once a weeks, but it isn’t be held in Western such as USA. The citizens of USA don’t have to stand for thirty minutes every Monday like Indonesian’s one. This is the case. We never know who first had idea of enforcing flag ceremonial to schools and all institutions. Some people thought that ceremony was utterly useless. They considered that sense of nationalism is still in their heart. The Western people seem love their nations, even if they never have such ceremonies. On the other hand, some people is willing to have it because the ceremonial is an evidence our patriotism in this area.
Flag ceremonial needs to boost our patriotism. It is esteem for Indonesia warriors who never give up reaching freedom. They sacrificed many things, blood, money; even they must be dead in war. Flag ceremonial can unite all Indonesian people easily, regardless our diversity. We line up in courtyard such in military fashion, sing “Indonesia Raya” and give respect to our flag “Sang Saka Merah Putih”. Believe it or not, singing our national anthem would evoke the sense of nationalism in Indonesia’s citizens, let alone we sing in International level competition.
All schools throughout Indonesia have flag ceremonial. Some people considered that flag ceremonial every Monday should be abolished. They thought that it was very exhausted, because we had to stand approximately thirty minutes under sunlight. Almost every flag ceremonial one or two students faint. Patriotism and nationalism don’t have to be showed in ceremonies. There is many way to show our love to Indonesia, like making achievement in competition both of national and international. Loving domestic product may be a way showing your love to our beloved country, Indonesia.
